LOW TEMP 71°C High-Flow Thermostat – Ford Barra 6-Cylinder

Designed for Ford Barra engines, the Planet Parts lower-temperature thermostat begins opening at approximately 71°C (160°F), allowing coolant to circulate through the radiator earlier than a standard thermostat.

Opening earlier gives the cooling system more time to control rising temperatures, providing additional thermal headroom before the engine is subjected to heavy load. It is particularly useful for turbocharged, tuned, high-boost, towing, track or other demanding applications where heat can build quickly.

Why use a 71°C thermostat?

A thermostat does not force the engine to remain at exactly 71°C. It simply begins opening sooner, allowing the radiator to start removing heat earlier. This can help reduce temperature spikes and gives more cooling capacity before temperatures become excessive.

For a standard daily-driven vehicle, the factory-temperature thermostat is usually the best choice. A 71°C thermostat is primarily recommended for performance or high-load applications, and the ECU fan settings should ideally be adjusted to complement the lower opening temperature.
