The factory 10R80 thermal bypass restricts flow to the cooler. This billet aluminium upgrade from Planet Parts removes that restriction, allowing full-time circulation and consistent cooling under load. This helps control temperatures before they become a problem.

Installation is straightforward. The billet bypass valve is a direct drop-in replacement for the factory thermostat valve located inside the transmission valve body. Simply remove the factory valve and install the upgraded unit.

Why Upgrade the Factory Bypass?

From factory, the 10R80 keeps fluid inside the transmission until it reaches a set temperature before allowing it to flow through the cooler. While this helps with warm-up and emissions, it also means the cooler isn’t doing anything when you first start putting load into the transmission.

Under real driving conditions like towing, acceleration, climbing, or slow off-road work, heat builds quickly. The issue isn’t just the delay - it’s that the system can struggle to react fast enough once heat is already there.

By allowing constant flow through the cooler, this upgrade:
