6R80 Billet Transmission Thermal Bypass Valve Upgrade

The factory Ford 6R80 thermal bypass valve restricts transmission cooler flow until the transmission reaches a set operating temperature. This billet aluminium upgrade from Planet Parts removes that restriction, allowing full-time fluid circulation through the transmission cooler.

By allowing constant cooler flow, transmission temperatures can be controlled earlier and more consistently, helping reduce heat build-up during towing, touring, off-road driving and heavy load conditions.

Installation is simple. The billet bypass valve is a direct replacement for the factory thermostat valve located inside the transmission assembly.

Why Upgrade the Factory Bypass?

From factory, the 6R80 transmission keeps fluid bypassing the cooler until a target temperature is reached. While this assists with warm-up and emissions, it can also allow heat to build quickly under real-world load before cooling becomes fully effective.

Under towing, hill climbs, heavy acceleration, touring and slow-speed off-road conditions, transmission temperatures can rise rapidly. This upgrade keeps cooler flow active continuously, helping stabilise temperatures before heat becomes excessive.

By allowing constant flow through the cooler, this upgrade:
